Her Excellency Queen Imaria Worlu, the High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to India, was invited to a discussion on ‘Strengthening and upgrading India-Nigeria relations: the way forward’, held at the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) on 15 June 2017.

Vimarsha: ‘China’s Belt, Road and India’ talk by Mr RN Ravi

On 14 Jun 2017, Mr RN Ravi, Chairman, Joint Intelligence Committee, Government of India, delivered an illuminating talk on “China's Belt Road and India" under the auspices of Vimarsha series of talks, delivered by persons ofeminence. The talk was attended to by a wide cross-section of people - former military officers, members of the academia, think tanks and civil services, to mention but a few. Consistent with talks under Vimarsha series, the session opened up and concluded with the recital of the Shanti Mantra (invoking the Holy Spirit for universal peace).

Interaction with a Delegation of Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Leading a three-member delegation, Dr. Arifi Saiman, Director, Centre for Policy Development and Analysis on Asia-Pacific and African Region, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Indonesia, visited the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) on 26 May 2017. Visit of a Delegation from the Royal College of Defence Studies, UK

Leading an eighteen-member delegation of the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS), Maj Gen Simon Leslie Porter (Retd) from the UK, visited the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) on 30 May 2017 for an interaction with the faculty. The delegation, comprising both military and civilian officers from over 11 countries, interacted with a select panel of security and foreign policy experts over a range of strategic and geo-political issues.

North Korea: Unravelling the Hermit Kingdom

North Korea has been the focus of increasing international interest of late. Much of it has been owing to its burgeoning nuclear weapons programme, which has been described by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as having entered a ‘new phase’ following a doubling of its uranium enrichment capacity.

India-Taiwan Strategic Dialogue

Leading a seven-member delegation of Taiwan’s Prospect Foundation, Dr. I-Chung Lai visited the VIF on 08 May 2017 for a joint strategic dialogue on India-Taiwan relations. The delegation comprised of Dr. Mumin Chen, Dr. Ming-Shih Shen, Richard Chiu, Jason Huang, Col Tony Sheng and Oliver Harn.

Interaction with a visiting Delegation from Fudan University, China

A four-member delegation of Fudan University (China), led by Prof. Zhang Yi, Executive Vice Director, Fudan Development Institute (China), and comprising Prof. Sun Lijian, Prof. Shen Dingli, and Prof. Lin Minwang as members of the delegation, visited the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) on 03 May 2017. The delegation interacted with members of the VIF faculty across a large spectrum of bilateral and multi-lateral issues.

Interaction with Maxim Shepovalenko, Russian Navy

The VIF invited Capt Maxim Shepovalenko (Retd), Russian Navy, for an interaction on India-Russia relations with emphasis on maritime cooperation. Lt Gen Ravi Sawhney, Dean, Centre for Defence Studies, headed the VIF panel which comprised of Amb D P Srivastava, Brig Vinod Anand and Cmde Gopal Suri, among others. Understandably, defence-industrial cooperation between India and Russia, which has experienced some drag in the recent years, topped the agenda for discussion.
