INTERACTION WITH BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER IN INDIA, HIS EXCELLENCY SIR RICHARD STAGG

The British High Commissioner in India, His Excellency Sir Richard Stagg had a very useful and candid exchange of views with a distinguished gathering of former Service Chiefs, Heads of Intelligence Services, Diplomats and domain experts at Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) on 16 September 2010. Welcoming the British High Commissioner, Mr. Ajit Doval, the Director VIF pointed out that India and Britain have a unique relationship evolved not only through the historical affiliation, but also driven by its future potential.

INTERACTION WITH BOB HORMATS, US UNDER-SECRETARY

Interaction with Robert D. 'Bob' Hormats, Under Secretary of State for Economic, Business, and Agricultural Affairs. A very interesting interaction was held at the VIF Seminar hall from 1130-1300h on 11 Sep. 2010 between US Under-Secretary of State, Bob Hormats and a very distinguished Galaxy of eminent former officials to include former Lt Governor of Delhi Mr Vijai Kapoor, Former Foreign Secretaries Lalit Man Singh and Kanwar Sibal, former Army Chief Gen V N Sharma, Former Air Chiefs ACMs S P Tayagi and Krishnaswami, former Vice Admiral Nayyar and Ambassador Rajiv Sikri amongst others.

TALK ON PLA by Dr. SHEN MING-SHIH

Col (Dr.) Shen Ming-Shih of the National Defense University of Taiwan gave a very illuminating talk on the PLA of China at the Seminar Hall of the VIF at 1500h on 20 Aug 10. It led to a very lively interaction with the assembled researchers. Col Shen is the Chief of Education Affairs Section of the Taiwanese NDU.

MR WENCHYI ONG’S INTERACTION AT VIF

Mr Wenchyi Ong, head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in New Delhi had a lively interaction on July 21st with a cross section of the Indian business community, security analysts, former diplomats, the academe and scholars at the Vivekananda International Foundation. Initiating the discussion Mr Ong dwelt at length on the improving cross straits relationship, the evolution of India-Taiwan ties and the tremendous potential for a quantum jump in the economic and commercial relationship between the two.

A Stimulating Interaction with Dr. Ashley Tellis

The VIF fraternity had an in-depth and stimulating interaction with Dr Ashley Tellis today. The discussions were marked by candour and frankness and generated useful insights into the current geopolitical scenario. The talk-cum-discussion lasted for over two hours and was highly instructive and useful.

John Negroponte visits VIF

Former US Deputy Secretary of State and Director, National Intelligence, John Negroponte visited Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, to interact with the senior faculty and scholars of VIF and a few seasoned strategic thinkers and diplomats from outside the Foundation.

China: Dimensions of Threats to India: Dr. Subramanian Swamy

The former Union Minister and China scholar, Dr. Subramanian Swamy, delivered a talk at the VIF auditorium, Chanakyapuri,  New Delhi on the topic of ‘China: Dimension of Threats to India’. The talk was a part of the monthly discussion series, Vimarsha organized by Vivekananda International Foundation, a ‘think tank’ in New Delhi, comprising leading security experts, diplomats, and intellectuals.

Michael Chertoff speaks on global security challenges

Michael Chertoff, former US Homeland Security Secretary, spoke at VIF on the subject of ‘Global Security Challenges - Lessons of the Past year’ on 7th December 2009. Introducing the speaker, VIF Director Ajit Doval in his introductory remarks praised the efforts of Michael Chertoff which have till date effectively thwarted any more terrorist strike on the soil of US.

Michael Chertoff, former United States Secretary of Homeland Security and Paul A. Schneider, former Deputy Secretary for the US Department of Homeland Security discussed various aspects of internal security with VIF security experts.

The topic of the monthly talk on February 27 2009 was ‘India: Foreign Policy options and Challenges before the next government’ and was delivered by Amb Rajiv Sikri, a former diplomat. He emphasized on both friendly and troublesome relations that the nation have and the options in front of us to formulate a healthy foreign policy.
