VIF-FICCI Homeland Security Conference 2023: Cyber, AI & Data Analytics for Internal Security

There has been much contemplation on the development of new technologies and their role in the progress of our societies. It is widely observed that when a nation is on a progress path with new technologies, the security aspect has been the least considered component during the development of these technologies. As many technologies are like the double-edged sword, they can be used or abused. There is a need for us to switch into the ‘mission’ mode and work towards the management and security of the cyberspace.

Trilateral Dialogue on India-Japan-South Korea: Promoting Peace, Prosperity and Stability in the Indo-Pacific Region

The Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) organised a virtual India-Japan-South Korea Trilateral Dialogue on the topic <b>“India-Japan-South Korea: Promoting Peace, Prosperity and Stability in the Indo-Pacific Region”</b> on June 15, 2023. The partner institutions included the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA), the Japan Foundation, the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) and the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP).

Workshop on Bluer, Greener, and Inclusive Growth on the Sundarban through an Ecosystem-based Approach

On 24 May 2023, the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) and the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS), in partnership with the World Bank, organized a workshop on “Bluer, Greener, and Inclusive Growth on the Sundarban through an Ecosystem-based Approach.” The workshop was attended by officials from the Government of Bangladesh, Government of India, Government of West Bengal, key think tanks, and civil society organizations. The objectives of the workshop were as follow:

VIF Delegation Visit to Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan held a nationwide referendum on constitutional reforms on April 30, 2023. A delegation from Vivekananda international Foundation (VIF) which included Dr Arvind Gupta, Director, VIF and Dr Pravesh Kumar Gupta, Associate Fellow (Central Asia), were invited by the Central Election Commission of the republic of Uzbekistan to monitor the referendum process as an international observer.

Quad-Plus Dialogue

The latest edition of the Quad Plus Dialogue (QPD) at the think tanks level was held virtually on 09 May, 2023. This time Vivekananda International Foundation hosted the dialogue. Apart from VIF, the think tanks from Quad members included the Heritage Foundation, US and the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA). The Institute for National Defense and Security Research (INDSR) from Taiwan also participated as a Quad-Plus partner.

The Vivekananda International Foundation organized an online brainstorming session on Strategic and Economic Outlook for 2022 on 10 January 2022. PS Raghavan, Amb Anil Wadhwa, Prof. Srikanth Kondapalli, Amb. Anil Trigunayat, Amb. Gautam Mukhopadhaya, Amb. TCA Raghavan, Lt Gen Ata Hasnain, Amb Satish Chandra and others.

VIF-JINF Webinar on Strategic Outlook for Indo-Pacific in 2022

The Vivekananda International Foundation organized a joint webinar with the Japan Institute of National Fundamentals (JINF) on 10 February 2022 on Strategic Outlook for Indo-Pacific in 2022. After initial remarks by Dr Arvind Gupta, Director VIF and Ms Yoshiko Sakurai, President JINF, presentations were made by Amb Anil Wadhwa, Distinguished Fellow VIF and Hiroshi Yuasa, Senior Fellow JINF. The webinar discussed a range of issues from shaping a new regional security architecture to engaging ASEAN and analyzing ramifications of China’s military rise and Ukraine standoff on the region. VIF-RIAC-IPIS Trilateral on the Developments in Afghanistan and their Regional Implications

The VIF, in collaboration with the Russian Institute of International Affairs (RIAC), Russia and the Institute of Political and International Studies (IPIS), Iran organised a webinar on the "Developments in Afghanistan and their Regional Implications” on 6 October 2021. Participants included Dr. Arvind Gupta, Andrey Kortunov, Mohammad Hasan Sheikholeslami, Seyyed Rasoul Mousavi, Amb. P.S. Raghavan, Mikhail Konarovsky Gleb Ivashentsov, Amb. Arun K Singh, Hosein Ebrahim Khani, Sanjay Singh, Bahman Agharazi, Andrey Kazantsev, among others.

Quad Plus Dialogue

The Quad Plus Dialogue is held every quarter since 2013 and the Vivekananda International Foundation has been the designated think tank representing India since the inception of this dialogue. Apart from VIF, the other think tanks from Quad members include Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA), Japan; Heritage Foundation, US and Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), Australia. Meetings of this Group are organised on a quarterly basis. The latest round of this meeting was organised virtually on 13 October 2021 and was hosted by The Heritage Foundation. In addition to above mentioned partners, Germany joined as “Plus partner" in this editionand was represented by the Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS) and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS). Representatives from the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) also addressed the Group and discussed NATO’s engagement in the Indo-Pacific broadly, and with the Quad and Quad-related organizations specifically.
