VIF-Sichuan University Dialogue on Sino-Indian Relations

Asix-member delegation from Chengdu-based Sichuan University (China), led by Yang Wenwu, Senior Professor and Deputy Director, Institute of South Asian Studies (Sichuan University), and comprising Mr. Zhen Bo, Assistant Director, Institute of South Asian Studies, and Mr. Zeng Xiangyu, Mr. Liu Jiawei, Mrs. Wang Juanjuan and Mrs. Liu Siwei, all Associate Professors, as members of the delegation, visited the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) for the annual VIF-Sichuan University dialogue, hosted alternatively by the two institutions.

India-Russia 70: VIF-RIAC Bilateral Dialogue and the Way Forward

With India and Russia barely two weeks away from celebrating their 70 years of bilateral ties, the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF), in collaboration with Moscow-based think tank Russian International affairs Council (RIAC), held a joint seminar on ‘India-Russia Relations and the Way Forward’ on 30 & 31 March 2017. One of the key objectives of the joint exercise was to seek potentials for broadening the scope of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Among others, the seminar focused on identifying and plugging differences in perceptions on certain key issues.

Interaction with Dr. Alinaghi (Kamal) Kharrazi, Iran’s Former Foreign Minister

Dr. Alinaghi (Kamal) Kharrazi, former Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, escorted by Ambassador Gholamreza, Iran’s present Ambassador to India, visited the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) on 20 March 2017 for an interaction. The interaction focused largely on two issues, namely, furtherance of India-Iran relations and an assessment of strategic and security paradigm in our extended neighbourhood (Af-Pak region) and West Asia. General NC Vij, Director, VIF, welcomed the visiting dignitary and also the chaired the interactive session.

VIF Delegation in Washington DC

A delegation from the VIF comprising Director, General NC Vij, Lt Gen Ravi Sawhney. Ambassador Kanwal Sibal, Lt Gen Davinder Kumar and Dr. Harinder Sekhon visited Washington DC from 28 February 2017 to 04 March 2017 for the annual ‘Quad Plus Dialogue’. This opportunity was used by the VIF to hold other important meetings with the US establishment and officials.

Interaction with Prof. Baoz Ganor on Counter-Terrorism

On 14 March 2017, the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) invited the globally renowned counter-terrorism expert, Prof. Bao Ganor, Founder & Executive Director of the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism and Dean at the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy, University of Herzliya, to deliver a talk on the topic of “Countering ‘Glocal’ (Global and local) Terrorism – Challenges and Dilemmas”, followed by an intense interactive session. Round Table Discussion on China’s Economy

Having transited from a government-controlled economy to a market-based economy in 1990, China had been successively clocking double digit growth until a decade ago. China's economic miracle, however, appears to be gradually fading away in recent years, evidenced by a broad set of indicators - contraction and slowdown in its manufacturing industry - the mainstay of China's export-driven economy - rising prices, especially wages, leading to cooling of the real estate, increasing shrinkages in fresh investments and consumption, among others.

‘Trilateral India-Japan-USA Dialogue’ - The Indo-Pacific, 17 February 2017

The Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) organized a bilateral dialogue with Japan Institute for National Fundamentals (JINF) on 16 February 2017 to deliberate on the changing strategic environment in Asia and enhance India-Japan bilateral ties. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, there is growing synergy through their visions of India’s Act East Policy and Japan’s Free and Open Indo-Pacific Strategy.
