Short Capsule on “India’s Strategic and Security Perspectives”

VIF, in continuation of initiative taken since last three years a fourth series of lectures cum discussions on India’s national security and strategic perspectives was organised from 18 to 19 May 2022. The short capsule aimed to acquaint the diplomats of foreign missions in India about India’s foreign and security policies as also the concepts and precepts that underpin India’s strategic outlook. The capsule was organised in the background of the two major events of the global scene i.e. the Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine conflict that have had a major impact on the emerging world order.

Water is not an infinite resource. It has no substitute. At present, there is a need for acknowledging this reality with certitude across the world. Globally, at present 2.3 billion people live in water-stressed countries, out of which 733 million people live in high or critically water-stressed countries.[1] In fact, it is estimated that by 2025 two-thirds of the world’s population may face water shortages.

Discussion with Chairman DRDO on Self Reliance in Defence Technologies

VIF organised a round table discussion among Dr G Satheesh Reddy, the Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation), the strategic community and representatives from the private Indian defence manufacturers and included L&T’s Defence, Tata Advanced Systems, Bharat Forge, Godrej, Mahindra Defence etc.

Protection of National Critical Information Infrastructure

India is in the next phase of digital transformation. The digital presence of economic and national security infrastructure is growing in the country at a rapid pace. All critical infrastructures are dependent and have integrated cyber technologies for management, control, and operations. Different types of software are in use. The critical systems are under various types of cyber-attacks. The complexity and numbers of attacks against critical information infrastructureare increasingand becoming sophisticated by the day.

Vimarsh on the Earth Sciences & their Importance for the Nation's Well-being - Dr. Shailesh Nayak

On the ninth of February, 2022, the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) organised a Vimarsh on the “Earth Sciences and their Importance for the Nation's Well-being”. The session encompassed a series of introductory remarks by Dr Arvind Gupta, Director VIF, and a presentation on the stated theme by Dr Shailesh Nayak- Director of the National Institute of Advanced Studies and Distinguished Scientist from the Ministry of Earth Sciences.

Strategic Leadership and Perspective Planning Workshop by VIF, Army War College and IIM, Indore

The VIF in collaboration with Army War College/Army Training Command and IIM Indore organised a "Strategic Leadership and Perspective Planning" capsule for three days from 24 to 26 November 2021 at the VIF in physical mode. There were 16 to 18 recently approved Lt. Gens who attended the programme. Over a period of three days, in addition to the military aspects of strategic leadership and perspective planning they were exposed to strategic environment confronting India. Speakers from IIM, Indore dwelled on communication and management issues.

Vimarsh - Book Discussion on “The Kashmir Conundrum: The Quest for Peace in a Troubled Land”

The Vivekananda International Foundation organised a Vimarsh dialogue in the shape of a book discussion on “The Kashmir Conundrum: The Quest for Peace in a Troubled Land,” authored by General NC Vij, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, on the 27th of December 2021. The event was chaired by Dr. Arvind Gupta, Director, VIF. The book discussion was followed by comments by an eminent panel consisting of Amb. Satish Chandra, Former Deputy National Security Advisor & Vice Chairman, VIF along with Lt Gen S A Hasnain, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM (Bar), Former GOC 15 Corps.

Climate Change and India’s Energy Choices

On 22nd November, Vivekananda International Foundation organized a Vimarsh on ‘Climate Change and India’s Energy Choices’ by Ambassador Dinkar Srivastava, IFS (Retd)- Former Ambassador of Iran, Czech Republic and Libya & Distinguished Fellow, VIF. Introductory remarks were given by Dr Arvind Gupta, Director VIF, in which he introduced the speaker and gave his brief point of view on COP26.
