Talk by Shri V. Srinivas on Administrative Reforms: Challenges and Opportunities

On 20th August 2021, the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) organized a talk by Shri V. Srinivas, Additional Secretary to Government of India, the DAPRG and Director General, National Centre for Good Governance on Administrative Reforms: Challenges and Opportunities. Dr Arvind Gupta, Director VIF, welcomed Shri V. Srinivas and delivered his opening remarks. He stressed on the need for administrative reforms, their implementation and the requirement of a new governance module in India. He also recalled Sardar Patel’s efforts that laid the foundation of robust governance.

Vimarsha on Defining Democracy by Dr. A Surya Prakash

In the recent past, several reports have come out questioning the functioning of the Indian democracy. Responding to these reports, the Indian Foreign Ministry said that India had “robust institutions and well established democratic practices” and did not “need sermons especially from those who cannot get their basics right.” Ministry further stated that the political judgments of the report were “inaccurate and distorted”. These attempts of tarnishing India’s reputation as an emerging world leader are nothing but propaganda.

Reforms for Atmanirbhar Bharat

COVID-19 has exposed the serious strategic implications of India’s import dependence, especially on China. Politics, Policy and Pandemic are the challenges to Prime Minister Modi’s vision of Atmanirbharta (self-reliance). While the initiative is essential to promote capacity building and competitiveness on a local and global scale, among the issues that still need to be looked into are cost of logistics, bureaucratic hurdles and comparatively higher taxes in some sectors that discourage investments.

On 10 July, 2020, the Vivekananda International Foundation conducted an online Vimarsha lecture on India's Efforts towards Developing a Vaccine to Fight the Coronavirus. The speaker for the session was Prof. K Vijay Raghvan, the Principal Scientific Adviser to the GOI. Dr Arvind Gupta initiated the session by introducing the esteemed speaker. Apart from the important positions that he has held in government departments, he was instrumental in setting up the National Centre for Biological Sciences.

Vimarsha on Story of Emergency (1975-1977): the Greatest threat to Democracy

On 25thJune, 2020, Vimarsha was held through a webinar at VIF, on the topic "Story of Emergency (1975-1977): the Greatest Threat to Democracy, How the people fought and won". It has been 45 years since the declaration of the National Emergency in India and the idea behind the event was to recall the suspension of the fundamental rights by the imposition of Emergency within India under Mrs Gandhi's administration and reminiscence the stories related to Emergency.
