When a colonised nation gets rid of its masters, one of its first acts is to reclaim its civilisational and cultural narrative, a legacy that had been pummelled and distorted beyond recognition and replaced by the coloniser’s worldview. For, what better way there is to destroy the spirit of a people than to ridicule and suppress their language, their cultural traditions, their religious beliefs and their way of life? Local heroes are consigned to the dustbins, deeply-rooted cultural values are labelled as misfits in the modern world, etc.

Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the Governance landscape of India has radically changed in scale, scope and learning paradigms. India has succeeded in transforming technologically obsolete institutions into modern day digital institutions which benefit millions of Indians. Today India’s rural country side has changed - banking Correspondents, e-Mitras and common service centers have bridged the gap between internet poor and internet rich.

India is currently ranked as the fifth most attractive and favorite destination for Medical Value Tourism (MVT) as per a popular MVT tracking website. Patients from all over the world come to India for various kinds of treatment. A majority of them are from Nigeria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Iran, besides other African countries. As per Invest India, a national investment promotion and facilitation agency, MVT patients increased from 1.83 lakh in 2020 to 3.04 Lakh in 2021 and the current MVT market is valued at $5–6 billion, and expected to be $13 billion by 2026.

Is the arrival of foreign universities to India really a negative development? Of course there could be reasons both for and against. But ultimately, it wouldn’t be as harmful or alarming as it is portrayed, especially if the challenges are converted into opportunities. If handled carefully, both India and the world can benefit by making the discourse on knowledge more fruitful. At least, it could be said that it is too early to oppose the development. Nevertheless, the decision has received criticisms on different grounds, from various ideological standpoints.
