Asia Pacific Group asks Pakistan to enact anti-terror financing laws

An international delegation monitoring Pakistan's commitments to the global financial watchdog FATF has urged Islamabad to make terror financing and money laundering extraditable offences, a media report said today.

The Asia Pacific Group (APG) on Money Laundering, which is currently in Pakistan, will submit a report to the Paris-based Financial Action Task Force (FATF) which placed Pakistan on its 'grey list' in June. The APG's Mutual Evaluation report can play a critical role in retaining or removing Pakistan from the list after September next year.Click here to read...

Big leg up for North-Eastern states! India plans to connect them to Bangladesh's Chittagong port

India has unveiled a major plan for the development of its North Eastern states by connecting them with Bangladesh’s Chittagong port and invited for the first-time limited Chinese investments which were shunned till now due to security concerns in the border areas.

Senior Cabinet Ministers from Assam, Tripura and Nagaland – the states governed by the BJP and its allies – accompanied by BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav visited the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou last weekend and met Indian and Chinese businessmen. “There, we had an interaction with the Indian community who are exporters,” Madhav told the Indian media here today.Click here to read...

India-backed Afghan dam to put Pakistan under pressure

India and Pakistan’s discord over water will now spill over to Afghanistan as well with Delhi ready to help the Afghan government build a dam on the Kabul river basin.

India at a meeting last week agreed to support the Afghan government build the Shahtoot dam near Kabul, a project which is not likely to go down well with Pakistan and its new dispensation. Islamabad had reservations against all India-funded projects in the landlocked Afghanistan and claims that this dam will restrict the flow of water to Pakistan.Click here to read...

China equips troops in Tibet with hi-pressure oxygen supplies to highlight military preparedness

The Chinese military has set up oxygen stations and introduced high-pressure oxygen therapy and specially designed portable barracks to its troops stationed in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to boost combat capability in the high-altitude ranges where oxygen levels are low, official media here reported today. President Donald Trump took steps on Wednesday to loosen limits on when the US government can deploy cyber weapons against adversaries, reversing Obama-era guidelines, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday. Trump signed an order reversing Presidential Policy Directive 20 that had mapped out an elaborate interagency process before the United States engaged in cyberattacks, the Journal said, citing people familiar with the action.Click here to read...

State Department concerned over Russian satellite’s behavior

A Russian satellite made a series of maneuvers in October 2017 that was “inconsistent" with its expected behavior and marks “a very troubling development,” a top U.S. diplomat said during a speech Aug. 14.

“In October of last year the Russian Ministry of Defense deployed a space object they claimed was a ‘space apparatus inspector.’ But its behavior on-orbit was inconsistent with anything seen before from on-orbit inspection or space situational awareness capabilities, including other Russian inspection satellite activities,” said Yleem Poblete. the State Department’s assistant secretary of state for arms control, verification and compliance.Click here to read...
