Joint Amity University and Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) Essay Competition and Panel Discussion on ‘Vision India 2030’

Consequent to the signing of MoU between VIF and Amity University, Noida, under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Dr Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Education Group and Dr Arvind Gupta, Director, VIF, a joint Essay Competition and Panel Discussion on ‘Vision India 2030’ was conceived and organized by Amity University at their Noida campus. Dr Arvind Gupta, Director, VIF was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

The Essay Writing Competition was made open to all Amity students. Following three topics were given to the students and they were to write an Essay on any one topic of their choice:-

  • India-a knowledge Superpower by 2030,
  • India-a Five Trillion Economy by 2025,
  • Education Must for Nation Building.

The competition generated a lot of enthusiasm amongst the students. The essay writing competition helped all the participating students to discover knowledge by doing extensive research and also gave them the chance to improve upon their writing skills in general. These essays were then evaluated by the subject experts with deep understanding of the topics. On 28 Aug 2019, a Panel Discussion was held at Amity University, Noida, where the students who had been adjudged first and second for each of the three topics presented their essays and showcased their oratory skills before the august audience leading to the successful achievement of the aim to Develop and nurture the unignited minds of the younger generation by inculcating ‘critical thinking’ and promoting ‘insightful perceptions’ with impactful solutions, on very contemporary, multifarious national and global issues, having significant diverse effect on society and nation building.

The Welcome Address was delivered by Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President, Amity Science, Technology and Innovation Foundation and the Vice President of Amity Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies.

The Keynote Address was delivered by Dr Arvind Gupta, Director, VIF. Dr Arvind Gupta during his address complimented Dr Ashok K Chauhan for ensuring that students at Amity Universities are also being imparted with the knowledge on Life Skills along with the Professional Skills. He said that this initiative of organizing the Essay Competition and the Panel Discussion is a great step towards inculcating the Nationalistic spirit and fervor in the students and also to make them aware about the progress our nation is making in multi-spectral domains.

The students were the Lead Speakers to open the Panel discussion on each of the topic which was steered by Lt Gen R K Sawhney, PVSM, AVSM (Retd), Centre Head and Senior Fellow, National Security and Strategic Studies and Internal Security Studies, VIF, as the Hon’ble Chairman of the Panel Discussion.

In order to enable the Amity students to get enlightened about the genesis, complexities and challenges with implications and the ‘way forward’ concerning various issues involved were elucidated and discussed. However, the intricacies, myriad resolutions and valid suggestions were delivered by the renowned Subject Experts from VIF, who are eminent in the fields of Education and Finance. Our subject Experts for the occasion was:-

  1. India-a knowledge Superpower by 2030
    Dr. Gulshan Rai, presently holding the coveted appointment of the National Cyber Security Coordinator, Govt of India, in Prime Minister’s Office.
  2. India-a Five Trillion Economy by 2025
    Shri Kishore Desai, the Former Officer on Special Duty to the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, and NITI Aayog, Govt. of India.
  3. Education Must for Nation Building
    Professor KK Aggarwal, Distinguished Fellow VIF, is the Founder Vice-Chancellor of the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.Presently, he is the Chairman, National Board of Accreditation, MHRD.

VIF had declared cash prizes for the winning students. Rs 15000/- each were awarded to the students standing first and Rs 10,000/- each to the students standing second in the Essay Writing Competition for each topic. Dr Arvind Gupta, Director VIF, and the Chief Guest, Lt Gen RK Sawhney and the Subject Experts were subsequently honored in a traditional befitting Amity manner by presenting a Tulsi Plant, Shawl and Amity Memento.

The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Lt Gen SK Gadeock, AVSM (Retd). Director General, Amity Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies.
