MDP to intervene in top court case to revoke constitutional amendments – Adhadhu

The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has decided to intervene in the constitutional case to revoke the amendments to Article 73 of the Constitution. The case was submitted to the Supreme Court by lawyer Ali Hussain who previously served as the MP for Kendhoo constituency. In a statement, MDP said the amendments erode the supremacy of the Constitution and contravenes basic democratic principles. MDP stated that the change has deprived the people of their right to elect a representative to represent them in Parliament.
