Kabul-based US and UK embassies have cited the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) which has called the Taliban’s recent atrocities in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province as war crimes and violations of International law.The embassies condemned the so-called retaliatory killings by the Taliban in Spin Boldak and asked for the culprits of the massacre to be held responsible. Nasheed expected to return to Maldives in September - Avas

Speaker of the Parliament and former President of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed's family has said he is expected to travel back to the Maldives from the United Kingdom next month. A terror attack was carried out against Nasheed on May 6 by detonating an IED as he entered his vehicle near his residence in capital Male'. According to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), the IED was strapped to a motorcycle parked nearby. Nasheed sustained serious injuries in the attack and multiple critical surgeries were performed on Nasheed at ADK Hospital in Male'. Nasheed later traveled to Germany on May 13 for additional treatment, and he is currently recuperating from his injuries in the United Kingdom.Click here to read...

State of Public Health Emergency extended - Avas

Minister of Health, Ahmed Naseem has extended the duration of the State of Public Health Emergency declared in the Maldives. This is the 17th extension of the State of Public Health Emergency since it was first declared on March 12, 2020. The emergency state was first invoked by former Health Minister Abdulla Ameen on March 12 last year for a period of 30 days by the discretionary powers vested in the minister by Section 33 of the 7/2012 Public Health Act.
