Question For Experts
Q. Pavan Kumar asked : Is Economic Reforms (1990-91) in India truly culpable for ruining the Liberal arts in the Indian education system?

Replied by Dr Sreeradha Datta:
While India has always been a source of inspiration and aspiration for its technical and medical universities, its liberal arts program is also rich and many Indians from this stream have been recognised for their contributions to various aspects, in India and outside. While it may be argued that there is much more to be done to bring back the glorious days of Nalanda and Takshila Universities, it needs to be accepted India needs to invest more in research and ensure greater excellence to its higher education. Indian liberal art education has also received falr amount of students from the neighbourhood and is well respected abroad too.

Q. Ashok Kumar asked : What is the significance of India for Myanmar?

Replied by Dr Sreeradha Datta:
Sharing over 1600 kms of border, India and Myanmar are friendly neighbors. Indians and people of Myanmar have enjoyed the deepest cultural links, trade, connectivity, people-to-people movement and for over a hundred of years in the colonial period in the post post-independence phase too. Working closely over a large number of common issues including cross border activities, India has welcomed the political transition towards democracy and the bilateral ties have gathered further momentum with the introduction of reforms and victory of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi led NLD win in the 2015. India’s ‘neighbours first’ policy initiated under PM Modi has le..

Q. Swapnil Samant asked : Is China's 'Artificial Sun' project an attempt to control the climate? Whether India (all neighbours) should be concerned?

Replied by VIF :
Yes as you have mentioned it maybe just an attempt to save electricity just like 'Artificial Moon' but the creation of such technologies can just change stakes and dynamics in international politics. The ‘Artificial Sun’ is a major project involving scientists from 35 countries that aims to generate ‘new energy’ sources using nuclear fusion, and China is on course to finish building this before the end of this year, as per, the latest media reports. It is an attempt to create an alternative source of power and the Scientists hope that the ‘Artificial Sun’ will help harness the power of nuclear fusion. China is the first country in the world to develop..

Q. Manish Pandey asked : How will the Government/Industry/Security Professionals/Citizens tackle the increasing threat of Cyber imperialism by China, USA or any other country when Core Cyber infra of India like Telecom towers, Networking equipment, Networking Protocols or even Mobile OS and Processors are owned controlled and often misused by them?

Replied by VIF :
There is no doubt that Nation States compete for an upper hand in technology space, especially when the technology has strategic applications. Cyberspace and the related technologies have strategic relevance and the competition is fierce in every segment be it research, product development or occupying a space in the policy high table for governance. There is no specific solution to the increasing threat of foreign interference when the telecom or communications infrastructure is highly dependent on technology procured from other countries who have a leading edge. Countries might consider preferential treatment to domestic technology supplies, if they exist and are c..

Q. Tarun Singh asked: Demographic dividend is changing in the many states which is a serious issue of internal security. What type of measures should be taken to stop, are Govt. agencies working on it or not?

Replied by VIF :
Our demographic dividend comes from young, working age profile. With so large number of hands working, India can be transformed in quick time. The hurdle comes from lack of infrastructure to suitably raise them, keep them in good health, train them and engage them in fruitful ventures. Taking the nation devastated in every respect during the colonial rule to the present state has not been a mean achievement, but that has not been enough vis-à-vis the population explosion. Rise in futureless youth population has brought with it many additional problems like internal migration leading to social tensions, race for employment, demand for reservations, corruption, illeg..

Q. Ashok Kumar asked: Why is India not able to outshine the influence of China in Myanmar after even establishing a democracy in Myanmar?

Replied by VIF :
While India and China are the two largest and growing economies in Asia, but that does not necessarily attribute similar capabilities and capacities to them. History, geography, culture, governmental systems all contribute to how each state wants to undertake its domestic and foreign policy. India and China cannot be understood through the same lens. Each has its strengths and limitations. Similarly their engagement with Myanmar, has different contours and hues. They are both important neighbour for Myanmar and they enjoy various levels of engagements, spanning strategic, political, economic, and cultural links. For India, its engagement with Myanmar or any other..

Q. Ashok Kumar asked: What are the politico-strategic impact of China's Special Economic Zone in Kyaukphyu in Myanmar and the China-Myanmar Economic corridor on India? Why is India not able to establish such strategic advantages in Myanmar?

Replied by VIF :
Both the projects in Kyaukphyu, consisting of three projects: a deep-sea port, an industrial park, and a residential area and a deep-sea port and the building the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor (CMEC), are been considered key for the Belt and Road Initiative. The Kyaukphyu project is poised to be a trade route with India and towards the West, and will give China access to the Indian Ocean and the deep-sea port will support the oil trade through the Shwe oil-gas pipeline. The China-Myanmar Economic corridor will connect Yunnan and three important economic centers in Myanmar, including Mandalay, Yangon New City and the Special Economic Zone in Kyaukphyu. Besides pr..

Q. Nagoor Raju asked: Recently mehabooba Mufti said that if India removes article 370, Kashmir will become palistine .she compared this as a Israel conflict. Is she trying to involve Arab world as what palistine did?how can we see this comparison?

Replied by VIF :
The analogy of Palestine completely ignores history. Part of Palestine under Israeli control was occupied by Israel in 1967 war. Legality of accession of J& K to India was never in doubt and has been accepted even by the Security Council. Article 370 is a provision of the Indian Constitution, and hence part of our domestic jurisdiction. Its future has to be decided in accordance with our democratic processes, in which different parties may have different views. The fate of Catalan movement in Spain and Kurdish movement in Iraq shows there is no international support for secessionist movements in independent States.

Q. Sridhar Ayothiraman asked: How will Pakistan involve China during any Indo-Pakistani conflict?

Replied by VIF :
A direct Chinese involvement during an Indo-Pak conflict seems highly unlikely in any scenario. India's own ties with China have high economic stakes involved and both are keen to keep the borders calm. However, China has more than compensated for this cold peace with India by developing a strong strategic relationship with Pakistan at the expense on India's security concerns. Irrespective of a conflict, the underlying factor driving the Sino-Pak strategic cooperation is the need to undercut Indian preparedness. On the naval front, Pakistan is set to receive Chinese warships and submarines. The Pakistan Air Force operates Chinese JF-17 and Chengdu F-7 Fighter je..
