Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Thursday arrived in Pakistan for a two-day visit aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries. The Afghan government leaders on Wednesday welcomed US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s remarks about a potential peace agreement with the Taliban as he said that Washington hopes Afghanistan achieves a peace deal ahead of the presidential elections – scheduled for September 28. Accompanied by the US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad Pompeo arrived in Kabul for an unannounced visit on Tuesday. He visited India after his trip to Kabul. “It was a pleasure to host Secretary Pompeo today at Arg, where we discussed a wide range of issues, including peace, elections, and security. On Saturday, immigration officials denied an American citizen entry into Nepal, and after holding him in interrogation for several hours, sent him back to the United States the same night. The man was on a “blacklist” provided by the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, which had instructions to not allow the individual to enter Nepal. But Nepali officials ended up deporting the wrong man, mistaking him for the former representative of the Tibetan Administration to the United States, who shares the same name. Click here to read... Sri Lanka’s president has ordered the execution of four drug offenders, potentially ending a 43-year moratorium on capital punishment. Maithripala Sirisena, the president, said on Wednesday that he had signed the death warrants, which had the dates of the executions, and sent the documents to prison authorities. He said drugs had become a serious menace across the country and there were 300,000 addicts. According to Sirisena, 60% of 24,000 inmates had been jailed for drug-related offences.
