On 23rd August 2013, VIF invited the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India, H.E Mr. Tariq A. Karim for an interaction on the present state and future prospects of India-Bangladesh relations. Ambassador Karim began his talk by first briefing the distinguished gathering on the major developments in the past that have strengthened relations between the two countries. According to Amb Karim, for Bangladesh, India remains the most important neighbour and strategic partner. Amb Karim also stressed that a strong and stable Bangladesh would be equally important for India, especially considering its look east policy.
He mentioned that despite few localized disputes, the two nations are natural allies and therefore have huge potential for establishing further cooperation in sectors including security, trade, power generation, and water management.
Ambassador Karim also expressed his concern over the growth of radicalism in Bangladesh.
Earlier, welcoming the envoy, Mr Ajit Doval, KC, Director, VIF highlighted the strong bonds of relationship between the two countries and praised Bangladesh for its decisive action against anti-Indian insurgent groups in the recent years.
