Interaction with US Congressional Delegation

Leading a four-member delegation of the Oversight and Investigation for the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the United States House of Representatives, Chief Council Mr. J Harold Rees, visited Vivekananda International foundation Oct 21, 2011 for an interaction on the situation in Afghanistan against the backdrop of an increasingly complex situation there. He was accompanied by Ms. Janice V. Kaguyutan, Deputy Chief Council and two other members of the committee - Ms. Sarah Leiby and Mr. William Hawkins.

Interaction with Col (Retd) Thomas M. McNamara, Deputy Director of Intelligence, USPACOM

Col (Retd) Thomas M. McNamara, Deputy Director of Intelligence, US Pacific Command (USPACOM) and Member, India Strategic Focus Group (India SFG) interacted with a panel of strategic experts at Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) on June 29, 2011. The interaction focused on the US exit strategy from Afghanistan and its larger implications for the region. Interaction with Members of US Congressional Staff Delegation

A Congressional Staff Delegation from the United States, comprising Kevin Fitzpatrick, Director, Subcommittee on Middle East and South Asia, Mr. Jeremy Haldeman, Staff Director on Oversight and Investigations and Mr. Ed Stein, Professional Staff Member, Subcommittee on Middle East and South Asia visited Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) for a closed door interaction on India-Afghanistan/Pakistan and regional affairs on June 8, 2011. The VIF team which interacted with the Congressional delegation was led by Mr. Ajit Doval KC, Director.

US Assistant Secretary of State Andrew J. Shapiro Interacts with VIF Faculty

US Assistant Secretary of State, Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, Andrew J. Shapiro visited VIF on February 11, 2011 for an interaction with senior members of the Foundation. A range of issues, including the strategic dimension of the India-US bilateral relations, defence trade between the two countries, relations between the two militaries and the regional and global strategic perceptions of the two great democracies, were discussed in a free and frank manner during the interaction.

American Foreign Policy Experts Interact with VIF

A discussion with a delegation of American foreign policy experts from the Washington based think-tanks Foreign Policy Initiative and the German Marshall Fund was held on 6 December 2010 at 2.30 p.m. at the VIF. The group consisted of William Kristol, Robert Kagan, Ashley Tellis, Gary Schmitt, Daniel Twining, Jamie Fly and Dhruva Jaishankar. There was a lively and wide ranging discussion on Indo-US relations.

INTERACTION WITH BOB HORMATS, US UNDER-SECRETARY

Interaction with Robert D. 'Bob' Hormats, Under Secretary of State for Economic, Business, and Agricultural Affairs. A very interesting interaction was held at the VIF Seminar hall from 1130-1300h on 11 Sep. 2010 between US Under-Secretary of State, Bob Hormats and a very distinguished Galaxy of eminent former officials to include former Lt Governor of Delhi Mr Vijai Kapoor, Former Foreign Secretaries Lalit Man Singh and Kanwar Sibal, former Army Chief Gen V N Sharma, Former Air Chiefs ACMs S P Tayagi and Krishnaswami, former Vice Admiral Nayyar and Ambassador Rajiv Sikri amongst others.

John Negroponte visits VIF

Former US Deputy Secretary of State and Director, National Intelligence, John Negroponte visited Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, to interact with the senior faculty and scholars of VIF and a few seasoned strategic thinkers and diplomats from outside the Foundation.

Michael Chertoff, former United States Secretary of Homeland Security and Paul A. Schneider, former Deputy Secretary for the US Department of Homeland Security discussed various aspects of internal security with VIF security experts.
