Interaction with Chinese Scholars on the Belt & Road Initiative

With Beijing upping its diplomatic ante on its ‘Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a group of Chinese scholars, led by Amb Liu Jinsong, visited the VIF to seek support for an international conference on the BRI slated to take place in Beijing on 14 & 15 May 2017. Briefing on the benefits of BRI accruing to India and the agenda of the conference, the delegation opined that that India’s participation will contribute to the success of the conference.

Interaction with Delegation of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China

A ten-member delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China, with Mr Yang Yu leading and Mr Wu Songlin, Mr Li Bijian, Ms Zhang Mengzhuo, among others, as members of the delegation, held a broad-ranging interaction with the VIF’s faculty on issues of mutual interest.

Visit of Delegation from Peking University, China

Mr Liu Xianjing, Deputy Director General of International Cooperation Center (ICC) for the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), led a delegation from Peking University (China) to visit the VIF. The visit was aimed furthering the bilateral relations through appreciation of each other’s viewpoints on a number of critical issues.

VIF-Sichuan University Dialogue on Sino-Indian Relations

Asix-member delegation from Chengdu-based Sichuan University (China), led by Yang Wenwu, Senior Professor and Deputy Director, Institute of South Asian Studies (Sichuan University), and comprising Mr. Zhen Bo, Assistant Director, Institute of South Asian Studies, and Mr. Zeng Xiangyu, Mr. Liu Jiawei, Mrs. Wang Juanjuan and Mrs. Liu Siwei, all Associate Professors, as members of the delegation, visited the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) for the annual VIF-Sichuan University dialogue, hosted alternatively by the two institutions.

Round Table Discussion on China’s Economy

Having transited from a government-controlled economy to a market-based economy in 1990, China had been successively clocking double digit growth until a decade ago. China's economic miracle, however, appears to be gradually fading away in recent years, evidenced by a broad set of indicators - contraction and slowdown in its manufacturing industry - the mainstay of China's export-driven economy - rising prices, especially wages, leading to cooling of the real estate, increasing shrinkages in fresh investments and consumption, among others.

Conference on ‘Security along the Silk Road'

Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF), in collaboration with Near East and South Asia (NESA) Center, USA, had organized a two day Conference on ‘Security along the Silk Road’ on December 15-16, 2016. 11 international guests and 12 Indian delegates participated in the endeavor, which addressed the issues and challenges in Central Asia. Major focus of the discussions was on political developments in the Central Asian Republics (CARs), economic diversity, energy sector, security threats like terrorism and extremism, and regional connectivity.
