The Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) hosted a closed-door talk by Mr. Noriaki Abe, Political Minister at the Embassy of Japan in New Delhi, on 13 June 2025. Speaking on the theme “Japan’s Security Policies Now: Proactive and Pragmatic Evolutions”, Mr. Abe outlined the significant transformations in Japan’s strategic outlook in response to an increasingly volatile regional security environment. He detailed Japan’s efforts to enhance deterrence, strengthen alliances, and expand strategic engagements, particularly in the Indo-Pacific. In this context, Mr. Abe emphasized the growing convergence between India and Japan on regional and global security issues. He highlighted key areas of cooperation including maritime security, defense dialogues, technology partnerships, and resilient supply chains. The interactive session explored opportunities for deepening the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between India and Japan, particularly in maintaining a rules-based order, countering coercive behaviour, and ensuring a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific.
