Adani in favor of Run-of-the-River 570 MW option for Wangchhu Hydropower Project over 900 MW Reservoir project option – The Bhutanese

According to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Lyonpo Gem Tshering, the Adani Group has indicated a preference for a run-of-the-river (RoR) model over a reservoir-type scheme for the development of the Wangchhu Hydropower Project. The RoR scheme option at 570 MW is designed to include peaking capabilities during the lean season, allowing for a minimum four-hour power generation window in a 90% dependable year. It is projected to deliver 1,968.55 GWh of energy annually, with a firm power capacity (winter generation) of 94.96 MW. In contrast, the alternative 900 MW reservoir-based scheme, though capable of producing 1,919 GWh annually and offering a higher firm power capacity of 126 MW, appears to be less favored by Adani following preliminary assessments. Visa issues raised during UK-Maldives dialogue – Adhadhu

Discussions have been held during the UK-Maldives Dialogue to address the difficulties faced by Maldivians in obtaining visas. Maldivians traveling to the UK get a six-month visa. But some people have been facing issues with changes to immigration policies. These include not getting visas for dependents of students. In a statement on Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry said the government raised matters related to visa and immigration during the meeting held in Male'. "Recognising the increasing number of Maldivian students travelling to the UK for higher education, the Maldives raised visa and immigration matters, and both sides agreed to continue discussions to facilitate smoother processes for visa issuance," it stated. Chin Resistance Blocks Myanmar Junta Advance – The Irrawaddy

Fighting is continuing between Chin anti-regime forces and advancing Myanmar junta forces in northern Chin State. Battles are reported on the Kale-Tedim road in Tedim Township near Mualpi and Hiangzing villages approaching Tedim town. Around 800 junta troops, led by a divisional commander, began to advance from Kale in Sagaing Region on May 18 but they were halted by resistance attacks near Mualpi, about 27km from Kale. Nine junta soldiers were captured by Kale People’s Defense Force (PDF), while at least 20 more soldiers deserted. Many of the junta troops were reportedly drafted under the Conscription Law. Myanmar is facing a China challenge with Beijing using sub-standard raw material for the Southeast Asian country's real estate sector following which the junta has approached India for assistance. Upset with the quality of Chinese construction in capital Nay Pyi Taw and the impact of the recent earthquake on the infrastructure created by using Chinese raw material (cement) in Myanmar's capital, the junta has turned to India for supplies of critical raw materials, including cement for buildings, ET has reliably learnt. India has initiated supply of cement to Myanmar for construction and reconstruction work, sources said, adding, the junta has praised New Delhi for its support at this critical juncture. Kuwait lifted a 19-year visa ban on Pakistani citizens and resumed issuing a wide range of visas to Pakistani nationals, the government said on Tuesday.
