The Defence Ministry held cyber security resilience exercise for a week. Google has opened a cyber security centre in Hyderabad. Over rupees two crore in crypto currency has been seized. In another, a case has been registered in a cyber fraud worth rupees one crore. Hyderabad cyber police arrested 37 fraudsters and recover Rs 15 crore.
Telangana police recovered and returned Rs 53 crore to victims of cyber fraud. Cyber police conducted raids across 10 locations in various States. Separately, a case has been registered in case relating to rupees one crore in cyber fraud. Police arrested a Kerala fraudster for rupees two crore cyber scam. Rupees two crore in crypto currency has been seized.
Tripura government announced it would set up drug rehabilitation centres at a cost of Rs 160 crore. Border Security Force has seized 7.47 kg methamphetamine from a drone near Amritsar. In another, BSF seized narcotics worth Rs 30 crore in Assam and Tripura in separate incidents. Mizoram recorded a seizure 127.9 kg of various drugs in 2025, while of 40 kg heroin and 127 kg drugs were recovered in 2024.
Several social media accounts promoting communal hatred have been flagged in Assam. A case of fratricide was reported in the Border Security Force.
Condemning the brutal Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025, global watchdog Financial Action Task Force (FATF) of the United Nations, on June 16, 2025, said it has enhanced its focus is on the steps that the countries have taken to combat terror financing, and will soon release a report on terror financing cases, including state-sponsored terrorism.[1]
The rare condemnation by the FATF shows that the “international community has felt the severity of the attack”, which killed 26 people in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, and spotlights that such attacks will not go unpunished, sources said, adding the terror attack was done by Pakistan-trained terrorists.
“Terrorist attacks kill, maim and inspire fear around the world. The FATF notes with grave concern and condemns the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April 2025. This, and other recent attacks, could not occur without money and the means to move funds between terrorist supporters,” the FATF said in a statement.
Destroyed by the Indian Armed Forces during Operation Sindoor, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) backed top terrorist commanders started rebuilding the terror training centres using sophisticated technology this time to save them from future strikes by India. “Some of the terrorists from Jammu and Kashmir who have now been operating from PoJK are also assisting Lashkar and Jaish commanders and Pakistani agencies in rebuilding the terror infrastructure and training of terrorists.”[2]
In a first, Canada’s top intelligence agency officially acknowledged that Khalistani extremists are operating from within its borders, even as it accused India of meddling and espionage.[3] In its latest annual report to parliament, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) confirmed what India has long alleged: ‘pro-Khalistan elements are using Canadian soil to promote separatism, raise funds, and plan violent actions in India’.
Police today said that it has conducted searches of over 200 terrorist associates in Srinagar for the last 2 months as part of investigations into various cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
“In its continued resolute efforts to combat terrorist ecosystem by targeting terrorist associates of various outfits and in the furtherance of investigation into cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Srinagar Police intensified searches across multiple locations in the district with the aim to dismantle terror-supporting infrastructure in the district.”[4] Police searched 200 houses.
Union Home Minister Shah, on June 22, 2025, chaired two important security meetings — an Inter-State Security Coordination meeting with DGPs/ADGPs and senior officers from Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Odisha on the issue of Naxalism, and a review meeting on the Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) situation in Chhattisgarh.[5] He confidently reiterated that the country will be completely free of Naxalism by March 31, 2026.
Three Maoists, including a senior Central Committee Member of the banned CPI (Maoist), were killed in an exchange of fire with the Greyhounds, near Akooru village in the Maredumilli forest area of Alluri Sitarama Raju district, June 18, 2025.[6] According to police sources, the encounter took place during a combing operation in the forest region near Rampachodavaram.
The deceased Maoists were identified as Gajarla Ravi alias Uday, a Central Committee Member of the CPI (Maoist) and Secretary of the Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC); Aruna, a South Zonal Committee Member and wife of the late CCM Chalapathi, who was recently killed in Chhattisgarh.
Twelve CPI (Maoist) cadres of various ranks surrendered before the Bhadradri Kothagudem district Superintendent of Police, B Rohit Raju, on June 19, 2025. He said the Maoists surrendered before the police after deciding to leave the path of violence and lead a peaceful life with their family members.[7] They also came to know about the welfare measures being taken up for the surrendered Maoists and also development of welfare schemes for tribals, provided under “Operation Cheyutha” programme by Bhadradri Kothagudem police. Separately, two senior Maoist leaders, including the commander of the Mobile Political School (MOPOS), surrendered to security forces.[8]
National Investigation Agency (NIA) has charge sheeted a key accused in the case relating to the IED blast that had killed 10 District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel and their civilian driver in Chhattisgarh by members of the banned CPI (Maoist) in April 2023.[9] NIA found during investigation that Bandra Tati was the president of Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Majdoor Sangh (DAKMS), a frontal organisation of CPI (Maoist).
With the arrest of two Kashmiri locals for allegedly harbouring terrorists who carried out the April 22, 2025 Pahalgam attack has led the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to conclude that all three attackers were from Pakistan. The terrorists visited the homes of Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar from Batkote, Pahalgam, and Bashir Ahmad Jothar from Hill Park, Pahalgam, and took food from them. “During questioning, they have disclosed the identities of the three armed terrorists involved in the attack, and have also confirmed that they were Pakistani nationals affiliated to the proscribed terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba,” NIA said.[10]
After Chinese drones used for smuggling weapons and narcotics into India, Pakistan army and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) have started using Turkish drones for the purpose. The Chinese pistols which were used by the terrorists for targeted attacks have also been replaced by Turkish PX5 pistols.[11] This has come to light during recent attempts by Pakistan to smuggle weapons and narcotics into neighbouring Punjab from the International Border. Some of the consignments of Turkey-made weapons have been seized by police in Punjab.
With the arrest of a youth, the Amritsar police busted a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) module backed by UK-based handler Dharam Singh and Dharma Sandhu, who originally hailed from Dhanoa Kalan village here. Officials seized six sophisticated pistols, including four Glock pistols from the arrested accused identified as Onkar Singh alias Nawab, Jalalusma village, falling under Mehta police station here. Dharma is a close associate of Pakistan-based terrorist Harvinder Singh alias Rinda of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).[12]
National Investigation Agency has charge sheeted seven accused, including three absconders, in the December 2024 case related to the grenade attack on Gurdaspur police station by Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorists. The terror attack on Ghanie Ke Bangar police station in Batala, Gurdaspur district, Punjab, was claimed on social media by BKI operatives Harpreet Singh alias Happy Passia and Gurpreet alias Gopi.[13]
Though its strength has depleted, the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) (ULFA-I) is still maintaining three camps inside Myanmar and the militant outfit is mostly involved in collecting money in the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh inter-state border areas. Police sources said that during questioning, Rupam admitted about the extortion bids of the outfit and revealed that the outfit has managed to collect around rupees six in 2025.[14] Most of the collections were from the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border areas as the outfit’s cadres are apprehensive of coming deep inside Assam territory.
Tensions flared up in the border areas of Manipur's Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts, June on 15, 20925, morning after Kuki and Meitei villagers targeted each other with stones and slingshots over cultivating a piece of land, officials said. According to officials, at least three persons sustained minor injuries in the incident which took place at Leitanpokpi.[15]
Newly-floated militant group Dimasa Halan Dui United (DHD-U) militants numbering 10 surrendered before the Karbi Anglong police at Dhansiri. DHD(U) was covertly working to revive an underground separatist movement in the hill districts. “Though the DHD(U) was yet to be declared an organisation, we managed to intercept them beforehand,” Saikia told the press, adding that the surrender of the 10 individuals was the result of coordinated intelligence operations and constant tracking of the group's movements”.[16]
Amid intelligence inputs suggesting possible movement of extremist elements along the Indo-Bangladesh border, the Cachar administration has imposed night-time restrictions in key border-adjacent areas to maintain peace and prevent illegal activities.[17] The restrictions will remain in force for two months from the date of issuance unless modified or revoked earlier. District Magistrate Mridul Yadav, invoking Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), issued an order on enforcing prohibitory measures with immediate effect.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted that Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) has remained free from violence over the past five years. The statement was made during the inauguration of the new district jail in Baksa. “In the last five years, there have been no incidents of bomb blasts, no firing, and no clashes between Bodo and non-Bodo communities. Ensuring peace in this region was a crucial task. Today, the districts under Bodoland are progressing along with the rest of Assam,” Sarma said.[18]
Mizoram is considering confiscating identity cards of Myanmar refugees who frequently cross the international border between India and Myanmar, exploiting the ongoing crisis in their home country. The Chief Minister concern over the conduct of some refugees. While acknowledging that many Myanmar nationals sheltering in the State are law-abiding, he flagged a section of them who “repeatedly crossing the border to go to Myanmar and come back to Mizoram taking advantage of the crisis in the neighbouring country.”[19]
At least 28 Naga tribal bodies and 12 political groups in Nagaland have launched an initiative titled, “Naga Bridge”, to show unity among them.[20] Aiming to tread a collective journey towards reconciliation, dialogue and a shared Naga future, representatives of 28 Naga Tribal Hohos (apex bodies), 12 Naga Political Groups (NPGs), and the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) launched the initiative recently during a convergence meeting held at Medziphema. A statement said the “historic convergence” took place in an “atmosphere of openness and humility for the progress of the Naga people”. The forum affirmed that the symbolic bridge was “not merely metaphorical, but foundationally grounded in the historical and political rights of the Nagas”.
In a bid to break the deadlock over the protracted crisis in Manipur, a 19-member delegation representing three of the State’s most influential civil society organisations is set to hold talks with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in New Delhi on June 30, 2025. The delegation comprises representatives from the All-Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO), Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), and Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), marks the first joint effort by these groups.[21]
A Special Court of National Investigation Agency (NIA), Kolkata, sentenced one accused to 6 years of rigorous imprisonment in a Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) anti-India terror conspiracy case.[22] The STF police station at Kolkata had registered the case originally in July 2021 with regard to the illegal entry of Bangladeshi national Sk Shabbir, Joseph and others, into India. Members/sympathisers of JMB had hatched a conspiracy along with their unknown associates to wage a war against India by recruiting and motivating young Muslim youth from within India and Bangladesh.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested four more accused in the Tamil Nadu radicalisation and recruitment case, an off-shoot case of Coimbatore car bomb blast case, taking the total arrests to eight in this case so far.[23] The accused persons are associates of Madras Arabic College founder, who, along with his associates, was involved in recruiting gullible youth and subtly infused Salafi-Jihadi ideology to them in the guise of imparting Arabic language classes in Tamil Nadu.
Tipra Motha Party (TMP) sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention for sending back all illegal Bangladeshi immigrants living in Tripura. A 15-member delegation of the TMP, led by senior TMP leader Animesh Debbarma, met Governor N Indrasena Reddy and handed over a memorandum, seeking the PM’s intervention.[24] “Illegal migrants were detained, flown to various border areas and pushed back to their country of origin. This has not been done in Tripura as was expected,” he said.
“Tripura has decided to set up drug de-addiction centres in all the eight districts of the State to provide healing measures to the drug-addicted persons. Each de-addiction centre will cost Rs 20 crore”,[25] totalling Rs 169 cr. North East Region (DoNER) Ministry has already sanctioned Rs 198 crore for setting up a special drug de-addiction centre in Bishramganj.
Enforcement Directorate (ED), June 25, 2025, conducted searches in Gujarat, Maharashtra as part of a money laundering probe against fraudsters, who allegedly committed cybercrimes like digital arrests and illegally transferred funds of more than Rs 100 crore abroad, official sources said.[26] The raids were conducted in Surat and Ahmedabad in Gujarat and in Mumbai by the Ahmedabad zonal office of the federal probe agency under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The Border Security Force has seized over 7.4 kg of ICE (metamorphine) valued in several crores in the international market.[27] The contraband was sent from Pakistan through a drone, which was neutralised by the BSF. The drone fell in the fields at Mode village in Amritsar. Acting on an input, a late-night operation was launched leading to the seizure.
In a major crackdown on cross-border narcotics trafficking, heroin and methamphetamine tablets valued at over Rs 30 crore were seized in three separate operations in Assam and Tripura, officials said.[28] One person was arrested in Tripura while two suspects managed to escape. In Silchar, Assam, Customs officers supported by the BSF intercepted an abandoned car at Panibhora, located along the Mizoram-Silchar Road. The vehicle was found to contain 885.56 grams of heroin and 15 kg of methamphetamine tablets, worth over Rs 22 crore.
Mizoram has recorded the seizure of 127.49 kilograms of illicit drugs so far in 2025. Excise and Narcotics Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar said.[29] Of the total, 46.68 kg of heroin was confiscated by the Excise and Narcotics Department, while the Mizoram Police seized another 80.81 kg. He said authorities are working on a war footing to combat drug trafficking and support those battling addiction. He voiced concern that a significant volume of narcotics continues to pass through the state undetected. “Most of the drugs seized are not meant for consumption in Mizoram,” he said.
An inter- district drug peddler was nabbed at Jakhani, under the jurisdiction of police station Udhampur and more than 10 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession. Upon frisking, 10.51 grams of heroin-like contraband was recovered from possession of the accused, following which he was immediately taken into custody. In this regard, a case FIR under section 8/21/22 NDPS Act (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act has been registered and further investigation is underway.[30] Jammu and Kashmir Police in Sopore have booked a notorious drug peddler under NDPS Act.[31]
Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Minister Bikram Singh Majithia was arrested by the Vigilance Bureau (VB) from his residence in Amritsar within hours of his being booked in a disproportionate assets case relating to money laundering Rs 540 crore proceeds received through trading in narcotics.[32]
‘Cyber Suraksha’, a comprehensive Cyber Security Exercise organised by Defence Cyber Agency under the aegis of Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, commenced on June 16, 2025.[33] This multi-phased exercise, which concludes on June 27, 2025, is a proactive step towards bolstering cyber resilience at national level, and encompasses the conduct of targeted training sessions, evaluation and an engaging capsule for leadership. Over 100 participants from national-level agencies and stakeholders from defence domains are taking part in it.
On June 14, 2025, Telangana’s Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) delivered a master class in fast-tracked digital justice. Collaborating with the Telangana State Legal Services Authority, financial institutions, and all Police Commissioners and District Superintendents, the bureau facilitated over Rs 15.79 crore in refunds in a single day during the second National Mega Lok Adalat of the year.[34]
This brings the total refund amount to Rs 53.5 crore during this edition alone, reaching 6,848 victims of cyber fraud. The momentum from this initiative builds on the first Mega Lok Adalat of 2025, held in March, which refunded Rs 14.3 crore to 3,527 victims in a single day, and Rs 43.68 crore to 4,984 victims over the full span of that initiative.
The Central Bureau of Investigation made an important discovery in its ongoing anti-cybercrime campaign, Operation Chakra-V, by dismantling an international cyber fraud gang and seizing Rs 2.8 crore worth of crypto currencies and Rs 22 lakh in unaccounted cash.[35] Just one suspect has been taken into custody and brought before the Special CBI Court.
Goa police, on June 21,2025, a Kerala native Rijas K for his role in an alleged high-value cyber fraud case amounting to over Rs 2.6 crore. Cyber Crime police station registered a first information report (FIR) based on a complaint from a Margao woman. According to the complaint, the victim received multiple phone calls and Whats App messages from individuals impersonating senior officials from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Mumbai.
In a shocking case of cyber fraud, a 43-year-old man from Mumbai’s Dadar area was duped of Rs 1.07 crore by cybercriminals who promised him a cheap flat in the city. The Mumbai Cyber Cell arrested one accused, identified as Sanyam Devmani Pandey (36), from Badlapur East in Thane district.[36] According to the Cyber Cell’s initial investigation, the accused defrauded the victim by carrying out 215 separate transactions under various pretexts.
In a major crackdown on cyber-enabled financial crimes, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on June 19, 2025, searched 10 locations across Delhi, Hisar, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune, and Nashik as part of Operation Chakra-V.[37] The raids were linked to a sophisticated organised investment fraud scheme targeting unsuspecting individuals through fake mobile apps and WhatsApp groups. A Kalyan resident was arrested for allegedly supplying pre-activated SIM cards and mule bank accounts -- critical resources for fraudulent operations -- to cybercriminals, according to the CBI statement. During the searches, the CBI recovered substantial incriminating material, including digital devices and documents, which shed light on the inner workings of the syndicate.
Global IT giant Google marked a significant milestone in its Asia-Pacific operations with the inauguration of its first Safety Engineering Centre in the region.[38] It represents only the fourth such establishment worldwide and will serve as the nerve centre for implementing Google's Safety Charter across the Asia-Pacific region. It will function as a comprehensive cyber security and artificial intelligence research hub, with particular emphasis on combating online fraud, protecting critical infrastructure, and advancing responsible AI development specifically tailored to India’s rapidly evolving digital ecosystem.
Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a case against former officials of Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE) and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), and two dredging companies over alleged irregularities worth over Rs 800 crore in the Capital Dredging Project to deepen ship navigational channels near Mumbai, officials said.[39] The action against the company officials follows a three-year preliminary inquiry into allegations of inflated estimates, throttling of competition to favour international bidders, extension of undue favours to contractors, and suppression of reports from independent expert organisations.
The Supreme Court, on June 18, 2025, rejected a bail plea of Bulgarian national Ruslan Petrov Metodiev, accused of running a counterfeit currency racket in the national capital, saying such an action eats away the vitals of the economy.[40] Metodiev was arrested on June 21, 2023, following a raid based on specific intelligence inputs alleging that he was supplying Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN). The police, acting on a tip-off, intercepted Metodiev in Delhi and allegedly recovered rupees eight lakh in Rs 500 denomination counterfeit notes from his possession. A bench comprising Justices Sandeep Mehta and Prasanna B Varale did not agree with the plea of bail.
More than 12 years after he absconded, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) a key accused in the 2013 Kasaragod (Kerala) Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) case following his extradition from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The accused, Moideenabha Ummer Beary alias Moideen, had been in custody of UAE authorities since 2015. He was taken into custody by an NIA team at Mumbai He was later produced before the NIA Special Court.
Over 5,000 social media accounts based out of Assam have been actively engaging with fundamentalist content in the past month (June 2025), raising serious national security concerns ahead of the State Assembly elections, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.[41] Addressing the media he said that these accounts are promoting narratives that are anti-India and anti-Assam in nature. “These accounts propagate fundamentalist views such as a pro-Palestine stance, annihilation of Israel, sympathises with Muhammad Yunus.”
In a fratricide, an on-duty Border Security Force (BSF) jawan gunned down another by spraying at least a dozen bullets in Murshidabad of West Bengal, on June 14, 2025.[42] The accused, Shivam Kumar Mishra (42), a constable from Chhattisgarh, was later arrested on murder charge by the police and was remanded by the Jangipur Court in police custody
